Numeric Pagers receive Numeric messages that are comprised only of numbers. Callers simply dial the pager number, then after the tone enter the phone number they want the pager user to call them back at.

Numeric messages can be up to 20 numbers. Some companies develop in-house codes for numbers. For example, 911 could indicate "emergency." Combining 911 with a phone number would mean to call the phone number immediately.

A few models of Numeric pagers are programmed with "canned Alpha messages" - when specific numbers are paged, actual word messages display on the Numeric pager. For example, a pager might be programmed so that paging the number 57 would automatically display "call office" on the pager.
